Battlefield 3 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC has an amazing array of weapons to choose from. Each class has several unique weapons that offer tons of massive firepower. A lot of the guns that you unlock as you level up are also usable across all the classes. The arsenal of Battlefield 3 seriously dwarfs weapon selections found in other similar games. I happen to play assault class in BF3 a lot more than other classes for some reason, so I will highlight my 2 favorite guns to use with assault. Maybe it is because I enjoy being the medic so much and running across open ground while under heavy fire to use my defibrillator (not really) or because I like to take the Mcoms and use a sub-machine gun up close range (yes, pray and spray look out)
M416
One of my favorite early unlocking guns for the assault class, the M416 has some great specs and works really well in battle. It is fairly long range, and can easily compete with some of the light machine guns. Grab a holographic site and you are good to go.
The recoil is easily controlled, especially compared to all the other assault rifles and LMG’s. It doesn’t even feel like real recoil with the M416, almost too fake in my opinion. That being said, the M416 is especially easy to use, and you can pull of some extreme jumping shots and acrobatic moves easily.
The magazine size is the only disadvantage I have really found, but the short reload time can make up for it. In close range this is a major problem, if facing 2 – 3 enemies it is quite hard to come out alive. I try to keep in medium to longer range engagements with this weapon.
I recommend this gun for TDM players and the early stages of defensive play in the rush mode. As long as you don’t get up too close, you can really stack the points up.
PP2000
Being one of the first weapons you unlock, this is a great weapon to add to your arsenal. It is a great PDW (personal defense weapon) It can also be used across all classes, another big bonus. You only need to rank up to unlock it.
It has great power for being a sub machine gun, but this is at the cost of high recoil. This gun is terrible at long range, but amazing up close. I usually switch to single fire mode if I am making medium to long range shots. This is a great gun to capture points with and run up and get real close.
The major disadvantage of the PP2000 is the small magazine size. I find I am unable to kill more than 2 enemies at once without reloading and getting killed by their third friend. The iron sites also are tiny and just plain bad, but this is easily fixed with a site upgrade.
Let me know if anyone wanted some other guns reviewed before they unlock them. My arsenal is full and I’m here to help.
